MUSIC HALL CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS
CHALLENGE:
Plagued with legacy debt, the Music Hall Center was facing permanent closure unless it could raise approximately $1.7 million dollars. The funds would payoff a private equity firm that held Music Hall assets and was applying pressure to close the doors forever.
SOLUTION:
With the help of Jon Barfield, Vivian Carpenter, and the Music Hall Board of Directors, a plan was established to create a campaign to “elevate” the Music Hall beyond the current crisis and onto sound footing. This included a public relations campaign to support the fundraising efforts with area companies and institutions and planning a fundraiser concert featuring Chaka Khan. With help of a front-page Detroit Free Press story and proceeding local and national media coverage, the campaign was successful in raising the $1.7 million in approximately three weeks.
